On May 4, we attended the exhibition of graduates of the school of architecture at École Polytechnique. The graduates’ contributions were highlighted by the school’s 2018 awards ceremony, an opportunity for students to present their work.
The SDK Award of Excellence was delivered to Gabriel Coughlan and Ariane Carignan for their project entitled “the cultural meeting place of Plateau-Mont-Royal”. This project stood out for its structural solutions regarding the architectural vision.
Carl Boutin from SDK and Jacques Lachapelle, Director of the school of architecture, presented the award to the two recipients.

A partner at SDK since 2016, Steve Parent was recently appointed president of the Montreal Structural Engineers committee. He has been involved as a member with the organization for many years. The Montreal Structural Engineers aims to develop relationship between structural engineers involving in the Montreal area.
Carl Boutin, also a partner at SDK, was a long-time contributor to the Montreal Structural Engineers organization, namely as president for 6 years.
SDK will be tasked with the structural engineering of the new Mount-Royal sports complex. This project will be led in collaboration with two other firms based in Montreal: Poirier Fontaine architectes and Riopel & associés.
The project includes an indoor pool (25 meters, eight lanes), an indoor space featuring a recreational wading pool and a space for water games, a double gymnasium, rooms for arts courses and other activities, multi-purpose rooms and an interior jogging track. The sports complex will be erected on the site of an existing a soccer field and linked to the existing recreation center.
SDK is recognized industry-wide for its significant experience in sports complex construction, especially in the design of aquatic sports complexes.
